ORDECSYS is a research and consultancy firm created in 2003 by professors and researchers from the University of Geneva. Since then, it has been providing methods and tools for techno-economic analysis within the framework of international research and consultancy contracts. ORDECSYS is specialized in systems optimization, decision under uncertainty and risk management. ORDECSYS applies these methods, in particular to modeling the energy transition and the economics of climatic change.
ORDECSYS proposes methods based on the latest optimization techniques and game theory to build algorithms and analytics tools that apply to the most important issues of our time.
ORDECSYS partners with other companies or R & D teams within consortia that can implement an interdisciplinary approach to tackle the most complex issues.
President
Alain Haurie
Alain has created ORDECSYS in 2002 with his colleague Jean-Philippe Vial from University of Geneva. Alain has been professor at the graduate business school of the University of Montreal, Canada (1963-89), and professor of Operation Research (OR) at HEC, Geneva, Switzerland (1989-2005).
He has authored or co-authored more than 150 refereed journal articles since 1985 and edited several books on integrated assessment, game theory and uncertainty analysis in environmental decision making.
Alain has been the leader of several large R&D projects concerning the economics of climate change, the design of multi-media web-based advanced courses concerning environmental management. He has been consultant for several organizations in the energy domain (Electricité de France, International Atomic Energy Agency, Federal Office of Energy, Switzerland, Services Industriels de Genève).
Vice President
Frédéric Babonneau
15 year's experience of high level consulting and research in systems optimization, risk management and energy modelling for large companies, governments and public institutions in the domains of telecommunication, finance, energy, economy and climate policies.
Frédéric is Vice President and senior scientific consultant at ORDECSYS since 2007. He holds a degree in Engineering and Applied Mathematical and a Ph.D. in Economic and Social Sciences from the University of Geneva. He is a specialist in the fields of Energy modeling, Optimization and Decision under uncertainty. He has applied optimization and robust techniques in the areas of energy/economy/environment and has led many international collaborative reserach projects in France, Switzerland, Chile, Qatar, etc.
Frédéric currently holds an academic position of Associate Professor at the Business School of Adolfo Ibañez University in Chile.
Partner
Jean-Philippe Vial
Jean-Philippe specializes in Logistics, Operations Research and Algorithmic. He has been very active in developing techniques for solving large-scale optimization problems, such as those that arise in multi-regional planning and in dealing with uncertainty.
Jean-Philippe has been professor at Universities of Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium), Strasbourg (France) and, Geneva, Switzerland. Since 2005 he is an honorary professor at the University of Geneva. He chaired the Mathematical Programming Society for 3 years, and has participated in the juries of prestigious international scientific prizes (Tucker prize, Franqui prize). He has contributed new numerical methods for optimization and has developed specialized software in this area. Jean- Philippe has published over 80 papers and one book. Jean-Philippe has been CEO of ORDECSYS between 2002 and 2016.
